Greetings YDEKC Members and Friends!
As you know, progress is being made towards a new funding source to support children, youth, and families in King County called Best Starts for Kids. This is a top priority for YDEKC this year, prioritized at our YDEKC Member Summit last fall. A few quick updates:
1. Last Friday, YDEKC hosted Sheila Capestany, Executive Constantine’s new Strategic Advisor for Children and Youth. 20 YDEKC members had an informal lunch to hear about her vision for the Best Starts Initiative and share our hopes for the future of King County’s youth.
2. The King County Youth Action Plan is now Policy! It was approved by the full Council on June 15th. This lays great ground work for how King County will do its business moving forward on behalf of children, youth and families.
3. The next hearing on Best Starts for Kids will occur this Wednesday morning:
- Wednesday, June 24th at 9:30am @ Council Chambers | 10th Floor of the King County Courthouse | 516 Third Avenue, Seattle, WA 98104
- Bring Youth!
There will not be testimony given at this hearing, but we are encouraging you to attend. If you have summer programs started, and can take a field trip with some of the youth you serve, we would also love to see many young people in the audience. You can sign up to receive updates from Executive Constantine on the Levy here.
Hope to see you tomorrow morning!
*We will be sending updates and action opportunities regularly about the Best Starts for Kids Initiative/Levy throughout the summer and fall. If you’d prefer to NOT receive these updates, please reply and we’ll remove you from this list (but keep you on our monthly e-newsletter “YDEKC Field Notes” list).
