Best Starts For Kids Levy Updates #3

POSTED ON October 22, 2015

Greetings YDEKC Members and Friends!

The full King County Council was briefed on this past Monday on the Best Starts for Kids Levy. There will likely be a vote next Monday, July 20th @ 1:30 pm in Council Chambers to move the levy forward to voters for the fall elections. Be there!

It is critical that there is strong turnout at the council meeting to show councilmembers that the community is ready to invest in prevention efforts and positive supports for kids and families, and change the paradigm from fixing problems after the fact to supporting healthy development for our kids and families. Improving outcomes and equity are at the heart of the proposal.

Here are 3 things you can do to support moving the levy plan forward to voters:

1. Write to councilmembers to express your support: send a note to councilmembers in support of Best Starts as an individual or representative of a stakeholder group. It’s time to allow the community of King County to start the discussion about Best Starts by placing it on the November ballot for the voters to decide.  It’s important they all hear from you/us multiple times this week.

2. Communicate with your stakeholders to express their support of the levy. Share with your stakeholders why you are supporting the levy, and ask them to do the same.

3. Come on Monday afternoon to support the levy. Please let us know if you’d like to TESTIFY too! Come early to get your name on the list.

  • Monday, July 20, 1:30pm @ Council Chambers | 10th Floor of the King County Courthouse | 516 Third Avenue, Seattle, WA 98104. Let’s pack the chamber! Young people are welcome!!

You can sign up to receive updates from Executive Constantine on the Levy here.
Hope to see you on Monday afternoon!

Best,
