Whole Child, Whole Day: We convene and participate in cross-sector collaborations to improve the alignment of efforts supporting children and youth in King County.
Every Hour Counts National Convening
Earlier in November, teams from King County and Spokane traveled to Denver to learn from other expanded learning system builders as part of the Every Hour Counts National Convening. With workshops focused on quality improvement, measurement and evaluation, leadership, racial equity and youth voice, we brought back many ideas that will inform our future direction at YDEKC as we dig into strategic planning. YDEKC’s Jessica Werner and SOWA’s Jackie Jainga-Hyllseth presented a workshop on Shifting Norms to Unpack and Undo Institutional Racism. Jessica also offers this blog post about how YDEKC is working to understand and disrupt harmful white supremacy culture norms operating in the nonprofit sector.
Coordinating SEL Work with Community Partners
One of the things we are focusing on in our SEL Partnership Cohort this year is how youth-serving organizations can communicate to school partners about how social and emotional skill development is embedded in a youth development approach. Check out CASEL’s recently added school guide tool, Coordinating SEL Work with Community Partners. The tool offers guidance on how to deepen SEL alignment and practice, plan for collaborative communication, and more.
