Holistic Life Foundation: Free Drop-in Chair Yoga Classes for Youth Development Professionals (Supported by YDEKC and School’s Out Washington)

POSTED ON March 15, 2021

We’re excited to share this guest post from the Holistic Life Foundation, who is partnering with us and School’s Out Washington for a free Drop-in Chair Yoga series for Youth Development Professionals this spring!

Hi, we’re The Holistic Life Foundation. Three local guys bringing mindfulness practice and coping tools to people across Baltimore, and now to you on the West Coast. You may have heard about our programming from staff at YDEKC and School’s Out Washington. Periodically, you’ll hear from us on topics such as the benefits of self-care, the impact of trauma, or how to infuse mindfulness at home. First, we’d like to tell you more about our organization and why we’re excited to be working with you on the practice of mindfulness!

Youth Development Professionals: Drop into one or more 30-Minute Chair-Based Yoga Classes (come every week!) between March 23 and April 22:

Holistic Life Foundation (HLF), founded in 2001, is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization committed to nurturing the wellness of children (and adults) through a comprehensive approach that helps children develop their inner lives through yoga, mindfulness, and self-care. For close to 20 years HLF has continued a deep commitment to learning, community, and stewardship of the environment. HLF is also committed to developing high-quality evidencebased programs and curriculum to improve community well-being.

YDEKC and School’s Out Washington are partnering with Holistic Life Foundation to work with participants on mindfulness practices. A typical session includes 30 minutes of breathwork and meditation. Research shows that mindfulness is one of the most powerful and effective practices to include in education and that contemplative practices help people cultivate an inner resource of resiliency, an important trait in successful adults. Many studies have shown mindfulness practices to be effective in helping people to improve their social and emotional skills, increase their focus, and reduce negative responses.
